"Like the vanishing Great Plains, my aesthetics lend to simple forms in
conjunction with an agitated surface. The most alluring component is color. I
find a pleasing, meditative quality from the rhythm of difference and
repetition, a subtle tension created by an integration of structure & the
unplanned."

The power of a visual memory is that within that memory we remind ourselves of what
we have seen and felt.  Alyson Kinkade’s landscape paintings are lessons in color.  We
travel in her compositions as far as our memories and wisdom will allow us.  And as we
experience something new in our own lives, we can come back to her paintings and
discover a new visual depth—a visual depth that had always been there, but is now
enhanced by our new experiences, our new memories.

Our paintings by Alyson Kinkade
A small 3 inch by 4 inch painting caught my attention.  An Italian landscape?  Perhaps,
New Mexico?  A View of the San Juan Islands or the rolling hills of Missouri?  Capturing
universal qualities – a primary consideration in choosing artwork for my collection, this
tiny oil pleased me and was the first of several Alyson Kinkade paintings I have
acquired.  Each painting, while representational in subject, is astutely abstract in
construction and expertly crafted (another must in judging any artwork).  Solid horizons,
unique combinations of color and subtle awareness of light are handled with rare
maturity.  Today, my wife Barbara, and I continue to enjoy Alyson’s paintings in my
office, my studio and our home.  And that little painting - completed while Alyson was
finishing art school, remains a favorite in our collection.

There is a quiet, studied aspect to Alyson's paintings that I find calming and meditative.
The simplified forms and brushwork denote just enough to barely suggest a subject,
allowing lots of room to wander
and explore my inner landscape with the painting as a way-marker.
Alyson's confidence in and mastery of her palette is remarkable - and it has been so for
years, which I find doubly amazing in someone so early in her career.

We are writing on behalf of our favorite living painter, Ms. Alyson Kinkade.  My wife,
Valerie, and I have collected in our home and at my San Diego Landscape Architecture
firm many of Kinkade’s paintings, including still life, abstract and several works from
landscape series' "Remembering Plains" & "Sunset, Open Plains".  We enjoy the depth,
calmness, and strength of the work. Her use of paint layering is rich and authentic. We
are continually amazed when Kinkade sends us images of her new work and look
forward to collecting more in the future.

Alyson Kinkade's is the only art we have felt compelled to live with.  Alyson's work is
always open for further exploration on every level: visual, emotional, spiritual.  While it
is evocative of an external landscape (or plane), it creates space for an internal,
personal response, at the same time is transcends the individual, allowing for a
transpersonal experience.
Apart from the interaction her work invites, it provides a delightful experience on a day
to day basis.  Never aggressively distracting, it is always welcoming and contributing a
contemplative presence in our home.
